| Q: Can a player in the CSHL also play outside his home program, eg for the Barons, Phamtoms, Gilmour Sabres, Cleveland Warriors or a Select Team?
A: It depends on the other team. The basic rule is set forth in Standing Rule IV-E-2 and IV-B, which read:
IV-E-2. . . . no player may be on the Official CSHL Team Roster of more than one CSHL Team at one time. Note the Barons, et al. are not considered CSHL Teams.
IV-B. A CSHL Team is one that either participates in the CSHL regular season or is a Select Team . . .
The Barons, Phantoms, Sabres and Warriors do not play within the CSHL either as a team participating in the regular season or as a Select Team, so they are not considered CSHL Teams.
So the answer is yes, a player may play for a CSHL Team and for one of these teams. Another rule should be kept in mind. SR VI-C reads:
VI-C. A player is ineligible to participate in his team’s playoff games unless he was present on the bench for at least 50% of his team’s League Games [defined elsewhere as regular season games].
The purpose of this “anti-ringer” rule is to prohibit teams from putting Barons (or other) players on their roster and having them play in the playoffs.
The answer above is different for a Select Team. A Select Team is considered a CSHL Team under SR IV-B above, and since a player is not allowed to be on the roster of more than one CSHL Team at a time, he can’t play for both a regular season team and a Select Team.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Q: What is the correct procedure in a curfew game?
A: Standing Rule II-B-4 requires a home team to notify the referees and the other team BEFORE a curfew game starts.
If this is properly done, when the remaining time in the game equals the remaining time on the "clock", the game clock goes to running time, and the game is completely official.
If the home team does not notify the referees and the other team that the game is a curfew game, then the game clock DOES NOT EVER GO TO RUNNING TIME. The game clock stays in stop time and the game is played normally until the rink opens up the Zamboni doors, at which time the game stops, the scorekeeper marks the time remaining in the game on the scoresheet, and the League will deal with the problem. [Fair warning-home teams should be prepared to forfeit these games, no matter what the score is when the game is stopped].
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Q: What is the rule on timeouts in a curfew game?
A: Timeouts cannot be called in a curfew game. This actually is a USA Hockey Rule, not a CSHL Rule. USA Hockey Rule 637(e) states that: "During a game that has a time curfew . . ., no time-outs shall be permitted."
In addition to this, the CSHL Standing Rules prohibit timeouts during running time (i.e. any time in a game after a 7 goal differential has been reached).
